Where ambition is concerned during the male-menopause a man may be struck in one of two ways, the severity of either emotion dependent entirely on the make-up of his personality. In extreme, either he becomes ambitious beyond all reason or, the opposite, he turns inwards, deflated and apathetic, with not one jot of ambition, seeing himself a failure. Fortunately most men hover somewhere between the two, alternating neither exclusively one way nor the other; sometimes fired with hope, sometimes crushed and making do with their lot.
Having little ambition makes survival difficult. Without sense of purpose no one can improve or change the quality of his life. Almost every situation in life demands some form of decision based on ambition in order to fulfil our innate need for success through achievement. In making a go of life and a success out of the future whether the prize is work or social it is imperative to be driven by aspiration or expectation. Life without ambition can only be, at best, tolerable.
Being driven by too much ambition can also make life difficult especially if the aim of the ambition is hard to obtain. People around you can suffer.
